  1. by chance, did you happen to find a good price on there somewhere?
  2. Fair enough, but while much of the WP and other newspaper sections across the country have gotten progressively worse as newspaper budgets are slashed, the WP Food Section has overall showed marked improvement over the past year. I particularly enjoyed today's wine column. Kudos to the WP Food Section for Dave's column, for the beer/spirits columns, for more print for Jane Black and occasional pieces from Melissa McCart, for the CSA weekly bit (which would really be great if it was less a "guess what I got this week" diary and more a "here's what to do with all these random things" column), and for the Chef's on Call concept - all positive developments over the past year or so.
  3. What's the significance of that? Reposado is oak aged, right? Is blanco not? What do you use one for as opposed to the other or is simply a matter of preference?
  4. Any recommendations for moderately priced spots proximate to Bayside/Biscayne Blvd?
  5. My sentiments exactly. Very disappointing to see someone behave so inappropriately and without regard for others even if in the name of journalism.
  6. Me too! And with Carpano Antica Formula in it, it is all good! I'm not sure I'll ever have another Manhattan without it.
  7. Not sure how you came up with your calculations, but $34 for the wine pairing here would be an absolute steal as the last time I was there it cost at least twice that amount. If folks have been wanting to try the Tasting Room, this seems like a great opportunity and value as regular costs with 20% tip would likely be closer to $235 a head for what you appear to be getting. For that reason and others, I'm sorry to miss this!
  8. That's not true, but someone would surely have to sneak out early to do a drop by reservation that afternoon and I believe there are some restrictions on when a large group can be seated - maybe 6:00 or 8:00.
  9. Very true, though for some reason it is on Sietsema's go-to moderately priced fine dining recommendations list. Bar menu is within reach though.
  10. And if you call ahead they can make a bigger one special to serve your whole table. That cake can make pretty much anyone feel special.
  11. I love Todd's chats, but they are loaded with technical difficulties. I thought the same thing, but while it remains rude to blackberry or text at restaurants, I'm not sure it makes him stand out all that much - especially if he makes a modest effort to do so with a modicum of discretion.
  12. An upside down cookie sheet. But you should buy a pizza stone - they aren't pricey!
  13. Do you have a price range in mind? I suspect pretty much everywhere will want you to commit to a three course prix fixe menu and charge you a bit of a premium. That said there are lots of nice restaurants around there. Poste, PS7s and Oya all have private rooms. For a lesser cost, Oyamel might work. Corduroy is a little farther away, but also has private space upstairs for a party of that size. And welcome and congratulations!
  14. Neb's on 2nd St. NE (near D St.) has good prepared sandwiches, soups & pasta salads. He's also a great guy. A few write ups here.I've occassionally visited Bistro Italiano (320 D St. NE) for unpretentious italian.
  15. Has anyone been to the Velvet Tango Room in Cleveland? Michael Ruhlman raves about it here though this article on speakeasys was the first I'd heard of it.
  16. To the next President of the United States of America - God bless the U.S.A.!
  17. Fascinating and much more fitting with what I've come to expect from them. Great news and what a great resource this board is. Thanks, Anna!
  18. Have you checked the sell by date? We bought two and realized after we got home that both had 8/21 dates. Delicious nonetheless, but I couldn't help but be somewhat disappointed.
  19. Entirely agree! Vidalia might be about the only spot I think makes RW worth it, but they so did this year. Their adding the 5 course option, and a couple lists of discounted inexpensive, as well as discounted not-so-cheap wine options is a real plus. The corned beef (KUROGE - aka the closest thing to real Kobe beef around short of actual Kobe) brisket and the oyster "sausage" stuff calamari were absolute highlights along with the coddled duck egg/veal sweetbread with pickled veal tongue vinaigrette and baby goat three ways. When you consider that kuroge, baby goat and various other not inexpensive chosen for restaurant week items are available and compare the $50 price tag to the regular cost of a five course tasting menu meal here, you can see that you are in for an extraordinary bargain, as well as a superlative meal. Kudos Vidalia crew! Other restaurants should take note.
