Hubby and I went to the Falls Church location while running a marathon of errands after I just got out from the gym and was starving- we got the regular gyro (not the one with fries inside, but the combo with fries). Hubby hadn't been before, I normally run my Falls Church errands without him. We both think this is one of the best gyros in the area. I might have polished off the entire thing, which I rarely do. I had to laugh the ordering system went down (for all of three minutes) and the young girl behind the counter made writing paper tickets for things seem like something out of the dark ages that just could not be done. She was very nice, just a little flustered without technology, we giggled a little to ourselves later at our table.

Actually, this is a disturbing trend at the Eden Center -- more and more chain restaurants are taking space there. ViVi Bubble Tea recently opened there, and Mango Mango and Little Sheep Hot Pot are also chains. I hope the mom and pop places that give the Eden Center its character don't get squeezed out.
Considering the scale of the problems at the Eden Center- it could be the Mom and Pop places leases are coming to an end and they are venturing elsewhere too, not sure, but they did have a big lawsuit regarding the plumbing and other unresolved issues and I can't seem to see what happened with that case.

Last night I used the really good tomato and lettuce I got from the Farmer's Market to make a really stellar BLT. That is just one of my favorite summer sandwiches, I could eat it almost everyday.

Was at Haandi last week for some curry and biryani (I like the mixed veg, meat one). I like the menu here, it has a few different things. This will be one of the places we really miss when we move, as it isn't too far away from us now, but will just be in a too far, awkward location later.

I like a little ticker, smoother hummus. For me Cava is fine, but the Lebanese Taverna Market or the Ottolenghi recipe homemade is better. I like the texture of it, but that is just a personal thing.

Not cool, but probably saved you a lot of money.
Yes. Hahahhaha.

Amazon prime day coincided with Partner Meeting Day and Home Inspection day... not cool.

Last night was leftovers from eating out and etc. But Monday night I made steak with Adam's seasoning, chicken tenders with a rub from penzey's called mural of flavor, capresse salad with some amazing heirloom tomatoes from the farmer's market and roasted zucchini with peppers and onion as my Mom was with us and she eats Keto.

I reserve the right to bring other random baked goods in an effort to empty out my dry goods cabinet.

I am bringing two additional foodie friends, so I am up to 4 guests! I put them on my RSVP, not sure what they are bringing yet.
I am changing my game plan based on what I have in the fridge/freezer and need to use: I am going to make meatballs, fresh bread, shrimp dish (either like a skillet with veggie and sausage, pasta with shrimp, or garlic butter shrimp, or...). And I might still make the cheese biscuits. And Hubby will bring Iced tea.

It has its place. Can do duty as crock pot, pressure cooker, etc. Definitely useful but not life changing.
I politely disagree that it isn't life changing, hahahahhaa. I have been using mine lately for a lot of curries. I also used it to make some baked beans from scratch- that was great as I could saute the bacon in the pot then add everything else in and start it. Has anyone used it for "risotto" if so any recipes you liked to do it?

Congratulations! Have fun packing
.
Thanks, I am excited we will be able to have a grill, and I have a hood vent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I am not sure there are enough exclamation points for a hood vent in existence for this.) I will be able to make much better flatbreads and steaks and so much more.

Friday night was chicken, bacon, L,T, M sandwiches.
Last night I took a copycat of Zoe's Kitchen coleslaw to that I doctored up to a bbq.
Tonight was pizza with the leftover smoked chicken, homemade tomato sauce, roasted peppers, onions and tomatoes with marinated mozz.
I am a little tired of the smoked chicken, and we had a good bit left and we are hosting people for dinner this weekend where I will need a vegetarian entree and a meat one, so I made some penne, threw in the red extra sauce, spinach, leftover roasted veggies, the chicken and the driblings from the bottom of the marinated mozz container (I will use the mozz and top it with that before baking and finish off the tub) tossed in the freezer for later this week. I also cooked some marinated chicken breasts for this weeks lunches/dinners (I know I just said I was tired of chicken, but I marinated them and needed to cook them and they are a different flavor).

I am bringing +2 so far- some foodie friends who we went to China with. I will add them to the list. They are going to bring Chendu spicy cold noodles, mmmmm.

Could this event be added to the events calendar or is that calendar only for birthdays? It would give folks another way to find this thread.
I've looked at the spreadsheet to figure out what people are bringing and it looks like there are a lot of holes in our menu -- trying to figure out how much to bring and if it should be savory or sweet. Any advice or preferences to help me make up my mind?
Well we never really know how many people are going to come, but it's a great time to spread the word to people who may be interested in joining DR.com... what I have done in the past is to make something that has at least 12-15 small serving sizes, so at least a large skillet size, or small casserole size. I have debated changing the cheese biscuits to a more rustic bread due to the tomatoes, but I like the cheese biscuits as an appetizer kind of thing, maybe I will do a test run this weekend. I would go savory, as if it is likely going to be hot (just a guess on that) I think people eat more savory than sweet? Just my two cents.

Yes, Ellē. The dish in the photo is one of my favorites on the menu.
SUMMER SQUASH PANZANELLA
Cherry Tomato, Sourdough, Roasted Peppers, Basil, Goat CheeseThis looks really good, I am having a vegetarian for dinner next week, and I think I might make this. Can I ask- is it zucchini two ways- roasted and raw, or is that cucumber on top?

Saturday I made homemade baked beans in the instant pot with butter, pinto and white beans, and some bacon and normal sauce ingredients- ketchup, molasses, mustard powder, pepper, apple cider vinegar, etc. They were delicious, why does anyone buy pork and beans? I also baked red pepper jelly with cream cheese dip and honey sriracha coleslaw to go with the chopped pork and smoked chicken the caterers were providing at a friend's bbq/pool party.
Sunday we picked crabs, so Monday I made a pasta with crab, roasted tomatoes and zucchini with a white wine, garlic, parsley, lemon, olive oil sauce.
Tuesday was leftover bbq and slaw sandwiches.

I could certainly add it to the events calendar (actually, I can give every single member here the ability to add events to the calendar (similar to how every member here has the ability to post); I just didn't think anyone used it anymore after our Calendar Girl became less active). Is this something people would be interested in?
I could also tweet about it, and ask members to retweet, if you think that will help.
Yes please (on both)!

I think I posted this on the duplicate thread, but I REALLY enjoyed The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. I realize they may have made it into a movie (I never saw it), but I thought the book was really insightful into his world in Africa.

My paralegal said it was good, that is why I tried it out (and it was in a location I needed to be in). He is from Georgia and likes the same bbq as Hubby, so I wanted to try it.

Nope, couldn't get them to work, either.

So reading this thread I am a little trepadatious (my spell check says this isn't a word, is this really not a word?) of what my new dining scene will be once we move to Potomac Yard. I work in OT and know the dining scene here, and am happy to pick up some Vietnamese or Thai right by my office to take home, I eat in Del Ray a lot already. I cook all the time and love to cook. Our normal Mexican place in Arlington is Taqueria Poblano, so that will carry over, Lost Dog will still deliver to us and I like Cheesetique. And I know that we won't have the same options as Arlington, but we can visit some of our old haunts with not a bad drive. BUT where would one go within a reasonable driving distance, order delivery or etc to get Indian food, Chinese, a good chicken place, etc, etc. Not the high end stuff, but more the everyday type of things one might want. What are your go-tos?
