It was a list published by Thrillist, which included some pretty noteworthy places (DBGB, Fiola Mare, The Partisan).
That's what I was afraid of, sorry. Therein lies the problem (well one of them) with the ubiquitous Millenial "listicle." Everything is "awesome" or "the best" and a "must try."

I chose it because it saw it on a list of best new DC restaurants this year.
Ouch, do you remember what publication/site referred to Second State this way? It's a brand new place that really hasn't been vetted at all. What a shame you chose it over so many worthy others.

Bombay Club is the best Indian I've had in the city (yes I've been to their sister(s) Rasika a bunch of times too), though sadly I haven't been back for a few years now.

Has Chipotle Grill turned into glop?
For the second straight time, my bean burrito was a gloppy mess, with probably less than 20 beans (pinto beans) in the entire burrito, and the innards probably about 50% liquids and sauces. This was an ugly, caloric, culinary travesty that was about as much fun as eating a jar of mayonnaise.
Do you get sour cream in your burrito? Even though I love a little sour cream w/ Mexican, I don't ask for it at Chipotle anymore because they're almost always too heavy handed. I get a pretty dry burrito bowl when I do make it in to a Chipotle with lots of Jalapeno Tabasco, chips and guac. This keeps me in control of the glop.

Loved the Oyster Chowder I had at the Union Market bar on Friday.

I hope it reopens! have been a few times and really enjoy it!
There was a fire on the roof of the building that houses Urban Butcher. From the looks of social media they are certainly intent on repairing and re-opening the business, from what I've heard they were doing well.

The H Street NE location closed in August, there are For Lease signs hanging in the windows now. Last I heard it was moving near the Howard Theater but not sure where that is. A significant loss for H Street NE.

Maybe its silent partner is Shelly Driftwood?
Or members of Travis?
But then I'd expect "American-style with haggis influences."

Does anyone else think DC is too hospitable to Dallas fans?
Lot of worms in that can.

Food offerings look excellent -- yes, I will have Pork Roll on my burger please.
But...

Don't you all think it's safe to say that G Sandwich, or for that matter, just about any vendor at Nationals Park, is essentially a glorified version of a food truck? No, I take that back: "glorified" isn't the right adjective; "stationary" is.
These are stationary versions of food trucks.
Definitely. Though stadium service is far, far worse than what you get at food trucks. Sure the truck runners have to prep most of their food in the morning at home or in a shared kitchen space, but they're (usually) assembling it and presenting it to you with some matter of love and care. It makes a big difference.
I've never wanted to be this guy, but the service at Nats Park stands is really terrible at the moment. It's been a long, busy season and I don't think a lot of the concessions workers have the desire, skills or energy to offer passable service. In recent games I've been to stands where the server is just blankly looking off in another direction when you approach to order. You have to greet, initiate, order -- wait -- pay, and then being the good middle class jellyfish I am, thank THEM for the pleasure of buying a $9.75 Dos Equis or $12 chicken fingers.
I have a 21 game plan and probably get to about that many per season. I probably eat in the Park one out of every 7 games now. It's too much of a chore and too expensive. You can get a perfectly nice 1/4 chicken dinner at Nando's in the Yards w/ a side and 60 Minute IPA (at happy hour) for the same price as one beer inside the Park.

Ha! I'm the most jaded person there is, and even I didn't think this was an inside job (though I could see where Kev might).
I knew wisehands was just psyched to get his hands on some high-quality, local 'za.
Fair enough. I'm excited about Frankly as well - just down the road from my place. Going to try it asap.

If you live or for some reason find yourself anywhere near Kensington and you love pizza, you've got to try Frankly "¦ Pizza.
This reads like a press release -- but the info is appreciated. Especially re: the menu and drinks, which are not posted online.

But I'm wondering if, for example, a Union Station restaurant could accommodate, say, 1,000 people in a given night. If so? @IMGoph might have a valid point.
Pff, that Chipotle probably serves 1,000 people before Noon
(Serious reply) And I'm not sure if Brookland Pint's opening night could compete with a World Cup afternoon at Biergarten Haus.

That's what I'm saying, go big or go home to NY.
You know he's from Vienna (VA not AUT), right?

Based on the instagram photo linked via the tweet, it's a bricks and mortar operation.
Yep - it's in one of the new Yards buildings w/ Harris Teeter, Vida, Sweetgreen, etc - announcement (JDLand).

Johnny's uses Leidenheimer bread!
Well there you go!

I've been twice now - both visits a couple weeks ago. Overall this is a warm family place that does some things really well and others not so well.
The Good: the po boy fillings are terrific. Nicely spiced and fried shrimp. Really nicely braised (?) beef - rich and saucy to give it that satisfying debris gravy feel. Lovely family vibe from the servers.
The Not-so-great: Bread. A shame to use the bog standard bad DC steak and cheese bread (spongy, no crust) with such nice po boy ingredients. Grilled/toasted/burnt but can't hold up to juicy fillings. I don't need an exact Leidenheimer facsimile, but something with a bit of backbone would help. Service can also be that odd combination of attentive without getting what you need when you want it. But that's easy to correct in such a casual environment. Sandwiches are pricey but the beer is reasonable, making it a better value outside of work hours. Overall Johnny's Half Shell (lunch only) has much better po boy bread for essentially the same price - that's a shame in my mind.
I'll definitely go back though.

Went to the 14th St location last week. Got a regular meatball, chips and a drink - $10.50. The hoagie was about 4", room temperature and the two meatballs tasted only of raw garlic. Kicking myself for being too lazy to walk the extra blocks to G.

Anyone know if they'll have a liquor license? Can't find any info on that.

Our neighborhood listserv says Indique Heights is closing temporarily on July 19th with no reopening date set (yet?). Ominously (well, to me, at least) the info came via Groupon. Any word on what's up and how likely they are to return? My husband will find it hard to imagine a world where Chettinad Chicken isn't a short walk away.
Starting July 19, the owners will close the Indian restaurant to allow crews to gut the space and carve out smaller properties. Rahman said the work will take at least four months. The final plans remain up in the air, Rahman said, save for the bar, which will move to the front of the space. The renovated Indique Heights will be at least 2,400 square feet, but could swell to more than 3,000 square feet if architects incorporate some of the outdoor terrace into the final design, the owner said.
"It's going to be less traditional than what Indique Heights was," Rahman says. "It's going to be a little more contemporary."

BHO really loves Del Ray. Few of the places have had him (Dairy Godmother, Del Ray Pizzeria). For one neighborhood, he's visited it a relatively high percentage of the places. Interesting...
Relatively quiet, nice neighborhood that would be easy for the Secret Service to 'secure' -- and it's an easy motorcade down the Parkway. Kind of makes sense to me. The administration also seems to like Cap Hill, H St and Arlington for these jaunts as well.

if you are craving tiny drumsticks, rest assured, you can go to Momo Chicken + Jazz on Cordell Ave and get 5 measly wings , FOR $15.
We opened the box, looked into it slack-jawed and all felt violated.
Aside from that, Mr. Heineman, how was the jazz?

If we were in Atlanta we could all head to the Varsity for an "oil change."
Have to say, when I was in Atlanta I wasn't overly impressed with The Varsity's chili slaw dog thingy -- but damn those onion rings were good!
