porcupine
Last night at a wine bar: a really earthy and fruity wine I''d never heard of (not that that's hard); Negroamaro, maybe? something like that And later at a restaurant bar: ginger Daiquiri gin and bitters Overheard at the wine bar: "do you guys have Hypnotiq?" from a man who was apparently on a getting-to-know-you date. There was a lot of name-dropping, too, which was funny when one of the dropped names walked by with no hint of recognition by either party. Later on: "are you sure you guys don't have Hypnotiq? Don't know if he was trying to impress the lady, or if he was requesting on her behalf. I don't usually eavesdrop, but hey, if you're talking loudly enough that I can't hear my husband sitting right next to me, well... Hanging out in bars sure can be interesting. Michael Landrum
Right now I am drinking a six pack. Because, despite what the mainstream medical community says--with its "gotcha" doctors and "scientifical" research--drinking six alcoholic beverages at one sitting does not constitute a binge, nor does drinking six alcoholic beverages per day on a regular basis make you an alcoholic, it makes you an American! Nor is alcohol cited in a great many cases of automobile deaths, domestic violence and hunting, fishing and boating accidents. That kind of verbage is just plain elitist. Me? I'm a maverick and six packs are what we drink.

But what about in your case, in which you walk into Archibald's, rip off all your clothes, do a handstand with your legs spread and quivering, and have them pour all six beers into a plastic milk jug and then funnel the entire thing up your ass? Stop laughing. I'm not being funny; I actually want to know if you consider this to be a day off from drinking. With apologies to Orhan Pamuk. I've taken to using a smallish strainer with 6 or 7 ice cubers and pouring the Genevieve over (through?) it into a cocktail glass. Lightly chilled, lightly diluted. Perhaps a drop of bitters as well? aaronsinger
Now I am going to have to try it with the bitters. Didn't like it with fresh lemon. I'm enjoying it with limeade, lime juice [one lime per drink] and some mint. Pretty good combo, although for the second one I skimped a bit on the lime juice and it was a little too sweet [the limeade was lazilty bought at a store and it is too sweet for good limeade]. zoramargolis
2005 Kirkland Yountville Cabernet. Yes, a Costco private label, of all things. This is KILLER juice for $16. Drinks like a $35 or $40 cab. I bought a bottle about 6 weeks ago at the Pentagon City store, kind of on a lark, and when I got around to drinking it, I couldn't believe how good it was. I searched Celler Tracker and found that while the other Kirkland selections weren't very highly regarded, this particular one got raves. I went back to Costco to get more and it was sold out. A helpful employee looked it up on the computer and found out that no more was expected in, but that the Springfield/Newington store still had some. It took me a couple of weeks to get around to driving down there, but I went today and bought the last six bottles.
